Changes of Tokyo STARTUP VISA (Program to Promote startup Businesses by Foreign Nationals.) (April10, 2025)

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government had implemented the "Program to Increase Foreign Entrepreneurs"to support foreign nationals in their startup activities in Tokyo.

In line with the integration of this program and "Program to Promote Startup Businesses by Foreign Nationals"by METI , the new Startup Visa will be launched.

Prospective entrepreneurs who have obtained a 'Certificate of Confirmation of Startup Preparation Activity Plan' from TMG (or a local authority authorised by METI) may engage in an activity as a 'Designated Activity No. 44' for up to two years.

Eligibility for the TMG Start-up Visa was previously limited to short-term visitors and students, but it is now possible to transfer from other residence statuses. It is also possible to bring in family members (spouse and children).
